Odawaraya transitioned from its original business of manufacturing tsukudani (simmered seafood and vegetables) to manufacturing pickles after the war. During the Showa era, when pickles transformed from a homemade treat made by mothers to a mass-produced item bought in stores, our company grew along with the expansion of the pickle market.
With the arrival of the Heisei era, pickles have shifted from being a staple side dish to a luxury item. In this context, we are not simply returning to the taste of homemade pickles, but rather challenging ourselves to create pickles that are made with the meticulous care and attention of a professional pickle maker.We use domestically sourced ingredients and minimize the use of additives in our products.We are proceeding with this.
The craftsmanship of a pickle maker, passed down in Koriyama, Fukushima.
Odawaraya, located in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, has been making food products since 1933 (Showa 8).
Currently, we handle a wide range of food products, from pickles and preserved foods to condiments such as edible olive oil and chili oil, as well as side dishes for rice.
At its core lies the long-standing tradition of pickle-making techniques passed down through generations.
The founder of Odawaraya was from Aizu, Fukushima Prefecture. He trained at "Odawaraya," a pickle shop in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, that had been in business since the Edo period, and inherited its production methods.
After completing his apprenticeship, he accumulated funds at the Ashio Copper Mine and in 1933 began manufacturing and wholesaling tsukudani (simmered seafood and vegetables) and pickles in Koriyama City, where the current headquarters are located. This marked the beginning of Odawaraya's history, which continues to this day.
They are particular about "pickles made by a pickle shop."
At Odawaraya, we have gone through a period where pickles were something made at home but something purchased from stores, and now we are committed to "making pickles that are made with care and attention, like a pickle shop."
Furthermore, one of Odawaraya's distinguishing features is its commitment to using domestically sourced ingredients and minimizing additives in its product development.
When you actually look at the products, for example, in the "Fukujinzuke" (pickled vegetables), domestically sourced ingredients are used for the radish, cucumber, eggplant, and ginger.
Furthermore, we incorporate domestically produced ingredients into each product, such as using domestically grown cucumbers in our "Cucumber Kimchi" and domestically grown radishes in our "Izakaya-style Barrel-Aged Radish."
Odawaraya's food production goes beyond just pickles.
Odawaraya's products are not limited to traditional pickles.
A prime example is "edible olive oil."
This long-selling product, launched in 2012, is now one of Odawaraya's most popular and representative products.
By deep-frying the garlic and onions, we create a crispy texture, and we season it without using any liquids, relying instead on the natural flavors of the ingredients and salt.
It is marketed as a seasoning that can be used in a variety of dishes, including bread, pizza, pasta, and carpaccio.
In addition, we have developed a variety of products that utilize the techniques we have cultivated in pickle making, such as chili oil for eating, Japanese-style sesame oil for eating, garlic miso, fresh ichimi chili pepper, salt koji, and pickle shop dressings.

Building upon our long-standing tradition of pickle making, we are creating new products that suit modern dining tables.
This approach is also reflected in the fact that they are expanding from pickles to new products like "edible olive oil."
